The Boise Airport is once again expanding and Nelson Construction
was the low bidder on approximately $4,000,000 by a margin of less than
1%. This years activities involve the initial construction of runway 9/27,
a short 5,000 foot runway. In this first stage primary usage will only be
for the national guard, however massive continued expansion is planned for this
area. Current plans show future construction of a total of three 13,000
foot runways and two 5,000 foot taxiways. Boise is continuing to grow and
its infrastructure with it. This project includes approximately 700,000 Cy
of excavation, 30,000 Cy of rock removal and 20,000 Cy of asphalt.
Construction will begin during the fall of 2001 and continue through spring of
2002.
Micron Technology is constantly continuing
their expansion and has built two new buildings for fabrication and
administration. These buildings required 30,000 Cy of rock blasting
and excavation, 2 levels of basement excavation, concrete wall backfill and 4
acres of parking. In addition Nelson Construction has supplied a year of
supervision, labor and equipment for on demand owner desired work.
Atlanta
Road PFH 82-1(1) is a hubzone small business set-aside project that
Nelson Construction has won as a subcontractor to the general contractor, Lemhi Environmental.
This project is a Federal Highway Administration contract improving the all
weather road from Boise to Arrowrock Dam in the Boise National Forest.
Alturas to Timber Way is a busy stretch of
highway between the resort towns of Hailey and Ketchum, on the way to Sun Valley
Idaho . This is a two year project realigning both sides of the highway
includes, the demo of an existing 2 lane steel bridge and construction of a new
4 lane concrete bridge over the environmentally protected Big Wood River.
Because of the outdoor nature of this area, this project also constructs a bike
path and bike path tunnel connecting the Greenhorn Trail to the Big Wood Trail.
The
Flying Wye is finally nearing the end of construction and Nelson Construction is
anticipating to finish in the fall of 2001. This three year project has fundamentally
changed traffic flow and access to one of Boise's busiest shopping areas.
Continued development and the construction of new retail businesses, strip
malls and the expanding shopping mall has augmented traffic congestion at
overwhelming pace. Future plans will continue to better ingress and egress
to this area and further major construction is right around the corner.
Rock Crushing is
just another integral part of Nelson Constructions primary business. Asphalt
production, highway and road realignment and concrete all require large quantities of
specialty aggregates. Nelson Construction has expanded its rock crushing capacities
greatly over the past few years and is crushing from Idaho to Utah. Providing aggregates
for itself as well as large quantities for Monroc Concrete.
